I was born in Germany and later moved to Coventry, where I was brought up. I am of Sri Lankan origin and was raised, alongside my older sister, in a family that strongly valued honesty and hard work. Neither of my parents had the opportunity to pursue higher education, and from an early age I witnessed the importance of dedication and sacrifice.
My father worked two full-time jobs for over twenty years as a retail assistant to support our family. Through years of effort and determination, he eventually purchased a convenience store, growing it into a small business employing five staff. From secondary school through university, I regularly helped out in the shop after school and during holidays, gaining first-hand experience in responsibility, time management, and customer service. This determination is evidenced by my undergraduate performance.
During my secondary education, I studied Carnatic keyboard, achieving Grade 8, which helped cultivate discipline and creativity alongside my academic work. My GCSE results reflected a range of grades (A–C), and while my A-levels did not reflect my true potential, this motivated me to strive for improvement and grow academically, ultimately demonstrated by my achievement of a First Class Honours degree.
I began my undergraduate studies in Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London, where I made a conscious decision to change my approach to learning. Through consistent effort, improved study habits, and a strong focus on fundamentals, I graduated with a First Class Honours degree. This period marked a significant turning point in my academic journey and reinforced my belief in the value of perseverance and self-discipline.
Following this, I completed a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering at University College London, where I strengthened my understanding of data-driven systems, machine learning concepts, and real-world applications of AI. In contrast to my undergraduate studies, which were heavily application-focused, the MSc placed greater emphasis on theoretical foundations and research, allowing me to develop a deeper and more rigorous understanding of the subject.
Outside of academia and work, I have a strong interest in cars, football, and fitness. These pursuits help me maintain balance, discipline, and a healthy competitive mindset. I enjoy setting goals, whether in training, learning new technical skills, or personal development, and I continue to focus on growth both professionally and personally.
